What the numbers mean and where each rib type works best in your garments.
The numerical designation of a rib refers to its sequence of knit and purl stitches. 1×1 rib is highly elastic — ideal for cuffs and neckbands. 2×2 rib is more structured, for waistbands and sweater collars.
Interlock rib offers smooth surfaces on both sides, while wide ribs (3×3, 4×2) and chunky flat-back ribs create pronounced texture for outerwear and sweaters.
